Scholarships/Fellowships

Under Law 4009/2011 (Government Gazette vol. A, 195/6-9-2011, article 54, par. 2), universities can offer scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate students, who are also requested to work part-time (up to forty hours per month) in university services (e.g., laboratories, libraries, etc.).

Scholarship/Fellowship award procedures include:

1. Allocating scholarships to UoWM departments after relevant Senate decisions and funds either from the university budget or the Special Account of Research Funds (SARF).
2. a. Specifying, after relevant Department Assembly decisions, of the i)      beneficiaries’ type of employment (e.g., laboratories, libraries), ii) the three-member selection committee for applications and required documents, iii)      appointment of competent staff, iv) application deadlines, and v) selection criteria

1. b. Forwarding decisions to the Directorate of Academic Affairs and requesting approval from the Special Account of Research Funds or the Senate.

1. c. Posting a notice of invitation on Department websites and on announcement boards.

3. a. Approval of the list of candidates by the Department Assemblies.

b. Follow-up notification to the Directorate of Academic Affairs, accompanied with a copy of the minutes.

c. Approval of relevant procedures by the Special Account of Research Funds or the Senate.

d. Notice of the Senate’s decisions to Administration services from the Directorate       of Academic Affairs, accompanied with a sample contract and other documents.

e. Contacting eligible students and signing contracts.

Research and excellence

The University of Western Macedonia (Departments and Schools) grants excellence awards and scholarships to students. Funding sources include donations, sponsorships or bequests, and other legal resources. The terms and conditions, unless provided by sponsors or donors, are determined by the Senate.

Aiming at the academic and research impact of the University, UoWM’s academic staff and students (of the three study cycles: 6, 7 and 8) are invited to contribute to interdisciplinary work to be published in international prestigious journals (blind peer review process), in collaboration with other researchers, as required.

Research papers (published in the previous year) are submitted from June 1 to June 30 every year, as determined in 2020, following SARF’s call of interest. Papers (in print or electronic form) published in the Scopus database are acceptable for evaluation.

The three (3) best papers of the School of Economics will get the following awards:

• 4,000 Euros (1st)
• 3,000 Euros (2nd)
• 2,000 Euros (3rd)
