After successful completion of the course, students are expected to be able to: 1. Has knowledge of the milestones of the European unification 2. Has knowledge of the basic points of the EU treaties 3. Has knowledge of how the EU institutions operate 4. Understands the decision making process in the EU 5. Has knowledge of the main EU policies in different areas (competition, agriculture, employment, cohesion policies) 6. Understands the developments in EU at the institutional and political level 7. Understands the political, social and economic effects of Greeces participation in the EU |

The course content includes: • The necessity for European unification • ECCS, EEC, EURATOM • Single European Act and the creation of a single market • The Maastricht Treaty: the European Union • Institution and bodies of the EU • The Amsterdam Treaty • The Economic and Monetary Union • The EU policies (competition, agriculture, employment, environment) • The Structural Funds and the cohesion policies of the EU • The EU in the world |
